Matthew Clarke was one of our founder players (Goalkeeper) in 1982

It was great to hear from Matt who sent us the email below:

Hello Larry,

I'm so proud that Railway Athletic became a formalised Club, from its humble origins, and has done so well.

I'm Matthew Clarke, the founder member Goal keeper, and so proud to be remembered on the Club website.

I kept all the fixture lists and results from our original team and if you'd like them I'll scan them and send them to you, another bit of History for our Team, but most importantly the Club. I think there is a team photo or 2 my Dad has as well.

I went on to play at County level in Goal after this team when I was moved to Hampshire (military Dad) and was in the British Judo Squad for 7 years - before, during and after playing for Railway Athletic.

I went to University and then joined the Royal Navy and I'm currently serving in the USA on exchange as a Lieutenant Commander. I have 2 Sons, both footballers, and I've attached a picture of the eldest playing for Virginia Rush Academy in Virginia Beach.

My fondest memory of our team is that Richard Pellow at that age scored the most powerful headers you've ever seen! I heard he joined the RAF.
